Your Mother - Ben Orton

Who was the first one to hold you
when you came into this world?
Who was the one that scolded you
when your finger's about to get burned?
How do you think we learned?
Who did her best to teach you the golden rule
and get us to school?

And who could you come home to
and feel comfortable to cry?
Who was the one that patched you up
when you wrecked your bike
or blackened your eye?
Who was the one that always knew the truth if you lied?

Your Mother, how could it be that it's anybody but your Mother?
She carried us inside the moment that we were conceived
until we breathed.
Your Mother 24 hours a day 7 days in a week
we take it for granted that she's always there when we need
some sympathy

Later in life when talking to her
on the telephone
I'm suddenly flooded with memories
of all the times at home
You know we're never alone
I shudder to think of all the things I did
so inconsiderate

She says the only thing she wants for us is happiness
Whatever it is that you want to do just try to do your best
and I feel so blessed
Of all the Mothers in this universe, I know we got the best.

Your Mother, how could it be that it's anybody but your Mother?
She carried us inside the moment that we were conceived
until we breathed.
Your Mother 24 hours a day 7 days in a week
we take it for granted that she's always there when we need
some sympathy
